Excavations at Ahichhatra in Uttar Pradesh have revealed the remains of an ancient city that was the capital of North Panchala. The excavations have uncovered brick fortifications, pottery, terracotta figurines, and Jain temples.EXCAVAtion history

- The excavations have revealed a sequence of eight cultural phases, from the OCP culture to the early medieval period.
- The city was most expanded during the Mitra-Panchala period, which lasted from about the 3rd century BCE to the 4th century CE.
- The city was deserted around 1100 CE.
