Excavations at Ahichhatra in Uttar Pradesh have revealed the remains of an ancient city that was the capital of North Panchala. The excavations have uncovered brick fortifications, pottery, terracotta figurines, and Jain temples.
EXCAVAtion history
The first excavations were conducted between 1940 and 1944.
The excavations have revealed a sequence of eight cultural phases, from the OCP culture to the early medieval period. 
The city was most expanded during the Mitra-Panchala period, which lasted from about the 3rd century BCE to the 4th century CE. 
The city was deserted around 1100 CE.

Ancient Jain āyāgapaṭa, including the Nāṃdighoṣa āyāgapaṭa
Jain inscriptions dating before 100 CE
Jain temple built during the Indo-Scythians dynasty
Idols, stupas, and pillars from the Kushan and Gupta periods
 
Location
The ruins of Ahichhatra are located in the village of Ramnagar, in the Aonla Tahsil of Bareilly. The city was bounded by the Gomati, Yamuna, and Chambal rivers.
