Vasudev Balwant Phadke, a pioneer of the Indian independence movement, is indeed recognized as the "Father of the Armed Rebellion in India" and the first Indian to lead a revolt against British rule, not in 1959 but in 1879. He was also one of the first graduates of Bombay University and was known for his outspoken criticism of British policies, particularly their economic policies
